Cspan Hearing - Alberto Gonzales

I watched the Department of Justice Senate Oversight Committee hearing on Cspan this morning. A testifying and sometime smirking Gonzales will have to produce the requested material he wasn't able to recall.

I cannot say that Gonzales actually provided thorough straight forward answers to the questions put to him. I could follow the questions and statements from the members, but for some reaon or another I got lost trying to understand AG Gonzales interpretation of the law.

Straight forward Questions and vaguely twisted answers on justice department operations, law enforcement and judicial policy. Including recent interesting decisions by the administration to submit domestic surveillance programs to federal court review. How many years later?

I was touched by Leahy's impassioned speech about America's honor. It was deep and poignant. When Senator Leahy stated that he would wait a week for written documentation from Ag Gonzales, if that didn't occur he promised another hearing for Gonzales.

This was a satisfactory showing of how serious the new 110th are taking their role in much needed oversight. First time I have witnessed demonstrators inside a hearing, that made a statement -- a statement that I have been waiting for.

Randi Rhodes: "Torture Czar Alberto Gonzales is simply “gaming the system” to avoid accountably. But with the adults in charge of Congress again, his options are becoming limited.

Randi Rhodes"Attorney General Alberto Gonzales has once again gone to war with the Judicial Branch of our government. Gonzales has also begun a Patriot Act aided purge of US Attorneys; most notably replacing the guy working on corruption cases with a RNC political hack. Also, in a desperate move to save their #&@*$ now that the adults are back in charge of Congress, Bush and Gonzales announce that illegal NSA wiretapping to go under FISA Court supervision. But what about all the other ways Bush is circumventing the courts?"

Thank you for your comment Douglas -- a voice of experience. Looks as though the US AG is being kept out of site and pushed under the radar, or possibly under the imperial bus? So obviously Not present at the SOTU Tuesday evening. Yep, the imperial wheels are slowly falling off.
Lets see what the march "United For Peace" on Washington will prompt. Have a good day.
