An Organizing Meeting in Seattle for Hurricanes Katrina and Rita Survivors

please forward and distribute widely...Message From Common Ground Relief...

December 17, 2 p.m.
The Wayward Cafe
901 NE 55th St
Seattle, WA 98105

Since Hurricanes Katrina and Rita , tens of thousands of residents of the Gulf Coast region have been displaced, many of them having lost everything they had. Their jobs are gone because businesses were destroyed, their homes are gone because houses were either destroyed or made uninhabitable by toxic flood water, evidenced by TFW scrawled across homes throughout much of New Orleans. Approximately half the schools in New Orleans are still closed, even though it has been over one year since the disaster.

Common Ground's mission is to provide short term relief for victims of hurricane disasters in the gulf coast region, and long term support in rebuilding the communities affected in the New Orleans area. Common Ground is a community-initiated volunteer organization offering assistance, mutual aid and support. The work gives hope to communities by working with them, providing for their immediate needs and emphasizes people working together to rebuild their lives in sustainable ways.
